food items from the age of 4 months. Thus, it is advisable to give supplementary food from the age of 6 months. The actual amount of food required
depends on the weight or energy density of the food. If a supplementary food is a high energy, a small amount is needed to cover the energy gap.
If the food is more energy then a larger amount will be
needed to cover the energy. The most appropriate age for feeding an infant or

avoided as they reduce the child's appetite for more nutritious food.
