Harshpal singh,38,a Deputy Commandant in the Cen-tral Reserve police Force(crpf)has trouble remembering the dates of his awards,That’s understandable, Since 2004, when he joined CRPF, singh has received as many as five gal-lantry awards.

On india’s 73^rd Independence day, singh was awarded the second highest peacetime gallantry award, the kirti chakara. He and his team eliminated three terrorists last September in the Jhajjar kotli area in jammu. Singh took a bullet and suffered splinter injuries during the operation.
